INTERNATIONAL LAW

Objectives and learning outcomes of the course unit:
The aim of the course is to provide students basic knowledge of public international law. Students will learn about specifics, functions of international law and international organizations as well as about issue of international responsibility that arises from breaching of international commitments and resolving lawsuits at the International Court of Justice.
The graduate understands the principles of private international law – collision regulation and is able to determinate the applicable law which should be used to regulate the private relations with international element. He/she is able to identify the legal status of foreigners in Slovakia .Students will be familiar with the legal regulation of the international purchase of goods and arbitration in international trade and will be able to solve disputes.

Course contents:
Principles, functions, sources of public international law, international system, succession states ,international responsibility that arises in respect of breaches of international obligations, law of treaties, process of the conclusion of international treaties, the UN system, the WTO and other international intergovernmental organizations. Private international law, principles, sources, conflict regulation, statutes, substantial and procedural norms, international procedural law, arbitration.
