OPERATIONS RESEARCH OPTIMUM PROGRAMMING

Course unit code: 461E002
Mode of completion and ECTS credits allocated: Exam (6 credits)

Objectives and learning outcomes of the course unit:
The goal of the course is to teach students how to formulate decision and economic analysis problems with the use of mathematical models and consequently how to solve and analyze them with the use of selected operations research methods. After completion of the subject the student is able to apply operations research methods to solve various decision problems and find optimal decision.

Course contents:
The course is focused mainly on mathematical programming and its use in decision making and analytical work. In the first part of the course an introduction to linear programming is given, the simplex method, duality, and principles of sensitivity analysis is explained. In the following part methods for solving transportation problems introduced. In the third part the basics of non linear programming are explained with a particular focus on quadratic programming problem solving. Next part of the course is devoted to basic applications of graph theory. The last part of the course is devoted to the basics of input output analysis, mainly to calculations derived from the distribution and cost equations.
